From Helplessness to Hope: Building Resilient Communities

This is a brief summary of a blog post written by our Board Member Frederika Roberts on her own website, shared with her permission.

With so many global challenges facing us, it's easy to feel helpless and even begin to languish. However, by fostering community connections, we can move from a state of languishing to flourishing. Dr. Corey Keyes, in a podcast interview, highlights the importance of community involvement and introduces "The Five Vitamins" – activities that promote flourishing: helping others, focusing on personal growth, engaging in spiritual activities, playing, and socializing with kindness.

Community involvement not only helps individuals but also creates ripples of positive change. By participating in local actions, building community resilience, and creating ripple effects, we can make a significant impact.

Dr. Keyes' six domains of human excellence – acceptance, autonomy, connection, competence, mastery, and mattering – further emphasize the importance of community in achieving psychological well-being.

In challenging times, focusing on small, deliberate acts within our reach can improve our well-being and create lasting change. Together, we can move from languishing to flourishing and build stronger communities.
